Brendan Hurley is a Binghamton University Dining Services (BUDS) Editorial Intern. He is also the voice behind Bearcat Byte.

 

"I want students to see that we are actively trying to find new ways to reach out and that we want to do what we can to provide the highest quality services," he said.

 

The Bearcat Byte Podcast is a Bridge between BUDS and the campus community. The podcast gives our listeners an easy way to stay up to date on BUDS upcoming events, news and promotions. We feature students, faculty and staff for fun foodie debates and insightful interviews. Brendan said the podcast gives BUDS a voice and recognizes the incredible team members we have.

 

"I'm a big podcast guy, and I thought that it would be a great tool to strengthen our marketing strategy," he said. "I knew that I wanted to highlight how much we care about the campus community, and I thought this was a great way to do it."

 

Making a podcast is fun, but there is a lot that goes into hosting it. Brendan starts by writing a plan and a script. He also records interviews and foodie debates. These can be up to half an hour long! But he edits them down to a few minutes.

 

"There are a lot of steps," he said. "But it's worth it!"

 

Brendan is a junior and a graphic design major. He joined BUDS two years ago as a Photography Intern. For him this was an opportunity to see the University from exciting angles and meet new people. In Fall 2020 he decided to pursue the Editorial Internship position. Since then, Brendan has enjoyed copywriting and interviewing our staff.

 

Looking for an innovative way to reach our audience, Brendan took his personal interest in podcasts combined with his editorial skills and used them to advertise our unique events.

 

"I am very appreciative that BUDS allowed me to start this ambitious project," Brendan said. "I am part of a great team that sees value in trying out new ideas and allows us to contribute in impactful ways."

 

Brendan hopes the Podcast stands the test of time and continues after he leaves. He wants to tune in to the Bearcat Byte down the line and watch it progress through the years.

 

"I want BUDS to continue to highlight our incredible staff," he said. "I'm very proud of it."
